How to get your business recommended by AI assistants in India
Published 2 September 2026
There is no button for this and nothing to buy. An AI assistant builds its shortlist out of the public record about your business — your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your Justdial and Sulekha entries, your own website. Make that record complete, consistent and current, and you become nameable. Here is the order we do it in.
When we sampled AI answers about Navi Mumbai businesses, single-studio local firms held the top slot in Nerul and Belapur — named in six answers out of six. The counts are here. None of that required scale. It required a public record that hangs together.
1. Claim and finish your Google Business Profile
This is the first thing to fix and the one most owners have half-done. Claim it. Then:
- Categories. One primary category that matches what you actually sell, plus the secondary ones that apply. Not seven aspirational ones.
- Services. List them individually — "modular kitchen", "2BHK full home interiors", "resale flat documentation" — in the words a customer uses.
- Areas served. Name the nodes: Kharghar, Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Panvel. An assistant answering "in Nerul" needs to see Nerul written somewhere.
- Hours, phone, address. Correct, and identical to what is on your website. Mark holidays.
- Photos. Real project photos, added regularly, not four stock images from 2021.
- Posts. Something every week. A finished project, a price update, a festival timing change.
- Q&A. Ask and answer the questions you get on the phone all day. Do it yourself; the section works whether or not customers use it.
More on why this comes first, and what a neglected profile looks like from the outside, in Google Business Profile and AI answers.
2. Reply to every review. Every one.
Reply to the five-star ones in a line. Reply to the one-star ones calmly, with the facts and an offer to fix it. Never argue, never paste the same sentence twice, never buy reviews — a run of identical five-star reviews in one week is visible to everyone including the assistant reading them.
The reply rate is the clearest public signal of whether a business is actually running its own profile. It is also the one an owner can fix this afternoon.
3. Make your name, address and phone identical everywhere
Pick one exact spelling of your business name, one address format, one phone number. Then make Google, Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMART, Bing Places, Facebook, Instagram and your own website say exactly that.
Indian small businesses collect listings the way phones collect apps — a Justdial entry a cousin made in 2019, an IndiaMART page with the old shop address, a Facebook page with the landline. Each stale entry is a reason for an assistant to be unsure that all of these are the same business. Fix the live ones, close the duplicates.
Write the address the way India writes it and the way Maps holds it: shop or unit number, building, sector, node, city, PIN.
4. Put the answers on your own website
Your site is the only source in this list you fully control, and it is the one most often useless. It needs to state, in plain text a machine can read:
- What you do, in the customer's words.
- Where you do it — the specific nodes, on the page, not only in a footer.
- What it roughly costs. A range in ₹ beats silence. "Full 2BHK interiors from ₹4.5 lakh" is quotable; "premium bespoke solutions" is not.
- How to pay and how to start — UPI, cards, an advance percentage, a site visit.
- Real proof: named projects, buildings, dates.
Then give each service and each area its own page rather than one page that lists everything. A page titled "Interior designers in Nerul" can be quoted whole. A page titled "Services" cannot.
5. Add structured data
Structured data is a block of JSON-LD in your page's HTML that states the same facts in a form no parser has to guess at. At minimum add LocalBusiness — legal name, address, phone, opening hours, geo coordinates, price range, areas served, and links to your Google profile and social pages — and a Service block for each service you sell. If you publish questions and answers, mark them up as FAQPage.
Two rules. The markup must match the visible page; inventing ratings or hours in schema is a way to get penalised, not found. And it goes in your own site's templates, through your existing web person, not into a third-party script that vanishes the day you stop paying someone.
6. Add an llms.txt
A plain text file at yoursite.com/llms.txt: a few lines saying what the
business is, where it operates, and which pages matter, with links. It takes fifteen minutes.
It is a small item, not a magic one — we list it because it is cheap and harmless, and we
would rather tell you it is small than sell it as a breakthrough.
7. Write in the shape of the question
People do not type "premium interior solutions Navi Mumbai". They ask "how much does a 2BHK interior cost in Kharghar?" and "which interior designer works in Seawoods towers?" Make each of those a heading on your site and answer it directly underneath, in the first two sentences, before any preamble. An assistant lifting an answer needs a passage it can lift.
Answer the awkward ones too — timelines, what is excluded from a quote, what happens if a project overruns. Those are the questions with the least competition and the most intent behind them.
8. Measure honestly, or you are guessing
Ask the assistants the questions your customers ask. Ask each one several times. Count how often you are named. That fraction — the mention rate — is the number to track, week on week. There is no rank to track: ask twice and the list changes. Why we refuse to report a rank.
Keep the evidence. The exact questions, the dates, the answers, what you changed and when. A month of that is worth more than any dashboard.
What to skip
- Buying reviews. Detectable, and it destroys the one signal you were trying to build.
- Tools that promise an "AI rank" or a "#1 on ChatGPT". The output is non-deterministic; a rank is a single dice roll printed on a chart.
- Keyword-stuffed page titles. "Best Interior Designer Kharghar Vashi Nerul Cheap Price" reads as spam to a person and quotes badly to a machine.
- Anything that disappears when you stop paying. If a vendor's work lives in their platform rather than in your accounts, you are renting your own visibility.
The weekly version
Once the setup above is done, the maintenance is small and relentless: one profile post, every new review replied to, photos from the week's work, one page improved, and a fresh set of AI samples recorded. That loop is the service we sell, and it is also entirely doable in-house if you have the hour a week and the discipline.
